Partner Feedback Leads to Shift in Strategic Direction and Financing

North American seed financing stage company developing discovery research instrumentation in the cell therapy space

Case Details

Client Profile: North American seed financing stage company developing discovery research instrumentation in the cell therapy space.

Client need: Partnering and/or fundraising

Result: Strategic direction change, $10M seed financing, recruitment of experienced CEO

The Challenge

The client was at the seed financing stage and was developing a platform technology with a range of applications in the cell therapy space, including the production of research lab instrumentation, conducting patient stratification diagnostics, and developing new cell therapy products.  The company needed additional funds to pursue its goals, either through partnerships or investment.

The company had been concentrating efforts to leverage its technology as a life science tool but was struggling to secure meaningful partnerships. There was also an openness to leverage the platform to develop an internal therapeutic pipeline.

What Did Shadow Lake Do?

Shadow Lake Group conducted an extensive partnering campaign for the platform by engaging with 500+ large pharma and biotech companies focused on developing biologics and cell therapies.

SLG also completed a comprehensive review of the Cell Therapy landscape, which determined that there were significant shortfalls in existing approaches that the company’s technology could address.

The Results

Based on SLG’s analysis, the company made the strategic decision to abandon the research tool approach and instead to focus on becoming a cell therapy company developing a pipeline of novel cell therapy products.

The company subsequently re-launched in conjunction with a $10M seed financing from prominent investors which resulted in the recruitment of a high-profile CEO.
